Mission Statement
What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is a medical treatment that stimulates specific points of the body through the use of very fine needles.  This stimulation travels along pathways, called Meridians, that effect change within the body.  Acupuncture moves Qi along these pathways to achieve balance, and correct disharmony.  Specific biological results of acupuncture include release of endorphins, regulation of endocrine function, increased circulation and enhanced immune function.  Acupuncture can be used as a treatment for many conditions, including musculoskeletal pain, neurologic dysfunction, respiratory ailments, gastrointestinal disorders, skin conditions, and urologic problems. Many of these conditions improve with the addition of acupuncture to the treatment plan.

Veterinary Medical Manipulation is a similar therapy to human chiropractic care. Small focused thrusts are performed to help a restricted joint move more freely, ease pain and muscle spasm, and increase range of motion. In addition to the direct impact these restrictions have on mobility, they can also impinge upon spinal nerves. This can cause chronic pain and dysfunction, lead to progressive muscle tension, and can impact the function of internal organ systems. All these effects can be far from the site of the restriction. A veterinarian trained and certified in VMM can help your pet in many ways. Alongside regular acupuncture sessions, your pet can experience increased comfort and mobility, and benefit from prevention of chronic issues. ALL pets can benefit from Veterinary Medical Manipulation!

About  Dr. Haumaier

Since earning her Veterinary Degree in 2004, Dr. Haumaier has had an increasing interest in geriatric medicine.  As many of our pets today live longer and longer lives, we are often faced with managing multiple health issues. Often, pets are on many medications, but still have issues affecting their quality of life. Dr. Haumaier wanted something else to offer, something more to offer, to give our pets the comfort they deserve. Certified in Acupuncture, with ongoing training in Herbal medicine and Food Therapy, she now has another treatment option for pets and their people.  Through her training and mentorship, she recognized the value that Veterinary Medical Manipulation adds to the well-being of her patients, and has been working toward full certification in that field as well. Her thought is that with Eastern and Western medicine together, she is finally able to treat the WHOLE patient, and not just put a bandaid on a problem. Although her interest started with helping older pets, all patients may find benefit with Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine. Our patients sure do! Check out our Patient Stories page!
